Classes

Beginning Knitting and Crochet: Beginning classes for knitting and crochet are scheduled one-on-one at your convenience during business hours. You may schedule lessons just for yourself, or for yourself and a few other friends. In beginning knitting, you will learn your stitches while you create a beautiful chunky yarn scarf. At the end of your mastery period, you'll have a fabulous accent you can actually use!

Classes a la carte: If you weren't able to attend a specific class, or you missed out entirely on one, here's your chance! Simply schedule the class topic of your choice at the time that's convenient for you.

How Much Do Classes Cost? At Vermilion Bay Yarn, we're all about getting you moving on your fiber projects and getting you going with new techniques. All classes (including beginning knitting and crochet) at VBYC are $20 plus materials. You do not pay each time you come in to continue the same class.

We offer high quality needles and hooks from Addi, Chiaogoo, Hiya-Hiya, and Brittany. Vermilion Bay Yarn (YOUR local yarn shop) is YOUR one stop for all your knitting and crochet notion needs: counters, holders, markers, darning eggs, tapestry needles, etc.

Knit Cafe: The Evening Fiber Art Group meets on Tuesdays from 6pm-8pm at the shop. Bring your project(s) and sit for as long as you like. Food, coffee, and soft drinks are always provided, and everyone is encouraged to add to the buffet.

Need something repaired? Favorite sweater with moth holes? Heirloom lace with a snag? Bring it in for an estimate.

Don't have time to knit or crochet it? The Vermilion Bay Yarn Company is your only local custom fiber art source! Please visit the shop for an estimate.

Knitting Parties at VBYC: Gather together 10 of your friends or colleagues and set a date/time for a knitting party at Vermilion Bay Yarn! Beginners and seasoned knitters can participate in the same party! Folks who've never knitted before will learn how and the experienced knitters work their own fun project! Contact the shop for details!

Our Return Policy

Now and then we purchase a bit too much, or decide that a different yarn might be better for a project than the one we selected. Here's how VBYC accomodates merchandise returns. This policy is also clearly displayed in the shop by the register. Thank you for your business!

Merchandise purchased at The Vermilion Bay Yarn Company may be exchanged/returned for shop credit only. No cash refunds. No exhanges/returns on special orders. Gift Certificates may not be redeemed for cash. Yarn presented for exchange must be odor-free and in new condition with the yarn band intact. Yarns wound into skeins are not accepted for exchange.

Knitting Rescue and Project Help

We are most willing to assist YOU, our customers, with quick help or to fix minor blemishes in your fiber work at no charge. As I see it, that's all part of what YOUR local yarn shop is about, especially if your project originated from VBYC. If you find yourself in need of frequent coaching on a particularly challenging project, or if you require detailed assistance with a project obtained elsewhere, we encourage you to make that project into a class ($20 fee applies) for the duration of your work.

Classic Elite Yarns, Folks!!

The first load of brand new yarns from Classic Elite arrived on August 27th! Just in at Vermilion Bay is the wonderful Egyptian Cotton many of you have been awaiting: Provence. Each hank has 205 yards of exquisite gorgeousness! Use it to make almost anything to create a striking, cotton fabric suitable for anyone. Louisiana knitters are always in search of lighter weight yarns wearable in our quasi tropical climate. Provence fits the bill! Another great Louisiana wearable in the bins now is Miracle, a lovely alpaca and tencel blend. With a sheen like this, you’d swear it’s silk! And sister, is it soft! Knitters of women’s tops, consider Miracle for your next projects. Its smooth lightness makes for a luxurious finished garment. Come in and check out the autumn colors! Your wardrobe has been lacking one thing: a smart and stylish garment hand knit of Classic Elite Miracle. Isn’t time to fill the void? Have you been looking for a delightfully cozy mohair yarn that’s hefty enough to knit singled stranded without using a microscopic gauge? No other beats Classic Elite Le Gran! Use it in combination with other textures, or just by itself in its comfortable mohair deliciousness! Choose Le Gran this season to step up your style with posh and pizzazz!

What a smile! What a hat!

It's done, folks! Mark's first ribbed hat! And it coordinates well with the Graphite and Apple Green Malabrigo double-faced scarf! I can't wait for it to get a bit cooler so I can wear the ensemble outside, however, I might just have to turn down the A/C in the shop a bit so I can enjoy the Malabrigo Merino softness even in August! Regulars to the shop will know that Mark just recently learned how to purl, having completed some 15 or so school scarves with utter perfection. Congratulations on the purling, and thanks for making me this wonderful autumn/winter hat. Don't let that scowel fool you. Mark really does love to purl!
It means "traffic detour". As many of you know, from time to time, depending on what the earth movers and tar trucks are doing on Verot School between Digby and Ambassador, there can be a few traffic backups in our area. This situation is more an issue for those of us who live south of Ambassador in Milton, Youngsville, and Broussard. Lafayette folks can take a speedy alternate route from Kaliste Saloom to Martial to Digby Road or the New Camillia extension to Bluebird to Digby. Here's another traffic escape detour route for us Youngsville people: Take Milton Avenue to Broussard Road, then turn right on Vincent (by Native Sun). Snake around Vincent to Demette Road and turn left. Stay on this new road. It becomes Elshaddai in the Peck neighborhood. Keep driving straight, and the street turns to the right and ends at a T on Peck. Turn left onto Peck. Peck brings you to Kaliste Saloom at the dentist's office. Turn right and continue to VBYC!

Knit Cafe!!

Tuesday we had quite a wonderful crowd for Knit Cafe at Vermilion Bay! It was wonderful to host a host of regular Cafe goers as well as many, many new faces, seasoned knitters and beginners alike! Just a reminder, that we have Knit Cafe twice a week at VBYC: Tuesdays AND Thursdays, 6pm-8pm. We always have a little potluck buffet going in the back, soft drinks and coffee are free to Knit Cafe participants, and Frozen Sun Daquiris is just a couple doors down (they run specials on Daquiris both Tuesdays and Thursdays, by the way!). Looking for a fun evening of fiber work with friends from the community? Check out the Vermilion Bay Knit Cafe! All are welcome!

MALABRIGO!!

If you were at Tuesday night's Knit Cafe, you experienced the preview of the new Malabrigo as we cracked open the boxes. All the yarns are now up in the bins and baskets ready for you! You'll find some of your favorite standard colors as well as many new ones, both "solids" and varigated ("solid" in quotes, because of the kettle dying). Worsted weight, sock, and lace. The most fascinating of the Malagrigos is the Silky Merino: silk + merino in one fantastic, amazing yarn. You get the luxurious sheen of silk and the butter-smoothness of Malabrigo merino we all love! It's a yarn that looks so uptown, you'd think it should be reserved for those "extra special" projects, but wait, it's so comfortable and stylish, it's really something you can wear every day! Come in a take a look at all your new Malabrigo choices!!

Goodie: Well Dressed for Autumn!

Goodie the Chihuahua stopped in at Vermilion Bay Yarn this morning (along with her owner) to pick up and model her new fall wardrobe. The tile floor in front of the needle wall was transformed into an instant fashion runway for Miss Goodie to show off the latest canine designs in Malabrigo, Lana Grossa, and Cascade. Goodie will be cozy and snug this fall and winter in Malabrigo Caribeno, Cascade Heritage Londonderry, and Lana Grossa Arizona. All these yarns are sock weight, and the jackets are worked on size 3 needles.
