Classes

Beginning Knitting and Crochet: Beginning classes for knitting and crochet are scheduled one-on-one at your convenience during business hours. You may schedule lessons just for yourself, or for yourself and a few other friends. In beginning knitting, you will learn your stitches while you create a beautiful chunky yarn scarf. At the end of your mastery period, you'll have a fabulous accent you can actually use!

Classes a la carte: If you weren't able to attend a specific class, or you missed out entirely on one, here's your chance! Simply schedule the class topic of your choice at the time that's convenient for you.

How Much Do Classes Cost? At Vermilion Bay Yarn, we're all about getting you moving on your fiber projects and getting you going with new techniques. All classes (including beginning knitting and crochet) at VBYC are $20 plus materials. You do not pay each time you come in to continue the same class.

What's Available At Vermilion Bay

The Vermilion Bay Yarn Company is your local source for the fine yarns of Rowan, Classic Elite, South West Trading, Cascade, Plymouth, Schaefer, Malabrigo, Muench, GGH, Brown Sheep, Lana Grossa, Tilli Tomas, Universal, and many others! We offer high quality needles and hooks from Addi, Chiaogoo, Hiya-Hiya, and Brittany. Vermilion Bay Yarn (YOUR local yarn shop) is YOUR one stop for all your knitting and crochet notion needs: counters, holders, markers, darning eggs, tapestry needles, etc.

Knit Cafe: The Evening Fiber Art Group meets on Tuesdays from 6pm-8pm at the shop. Bring your project(s) and sit for as long as you like. Food, coffee, and soft drinks are always provided, and everyone is encouraged to add to the buffet.

Need something repaired? Favorite sweater with moth holes? Heirloom lace with a snag? Bring it in for an estimate.

Don't have time to knit or crochet it? The Vermilion Bay Yarn Company is your only local custom fiber art source! Please visit the shop for an estimate.

Knitting Parties at VBYC: Gather together 10 of your friends or colleagues and set a date/time for a knitting party at Vermilion Bay Yarn! Beginners and seasoned knitters can participate in the same party! Folks who've never knitted before will learn how and the experienced knitters work their own fun project! Contact the shop for details!

Our Return Policy

Now and then we purchase a bit too much, or decide that a different yarn might be better for a project than the one we selected. Here's how VBYC accomodates merchandise returns. This policy is also clearly displayed in the shop by the register. Thank you for your business!

Merchandise purchased at The Vermilion Bay Yarn Company may be exchanged/returned for shop credit only. No cash refunds. No exhanges/returns on special orders. Gift Certificates may not be redeemed for cash. Yarn presented for exchange must be odor-free and in new condition with the yarn band intact. Yarns wound into skeins are not accepted for exchange.

Knitting Rescue and Project Help

We are most willing to assist YOU, our customers, with quick help or to fix minor blemishes in your fiber work at no charge. As I see it, that's all part of what YOUR local yarn shop is about, especially if your project originated from VBYC. If you find yourself in need of frequent coaching on a particularly challenging project, or if you require detailed assistance with a project obtained elsewhere, we encourage you to make that project into a class ($20 fee applies) for the duration of your work.

What's All New At VBYC....

The Knit Kits have been very popular. They are the "Swiss army knife" for fiber fans. Each unit contains all the fiber work essentials in one place: crochet hook, yarn cutter, measuring tape, counter, scissors, point protectors, and markers. These gems are perfect for the travelling fiber artist. They're in stock now. Pick yours up today! Sierra Quatro is just like the solid colored Sierra (80% cotton, 20% wool -- just enough wool to make it soft, and it's machine washable, folks!), but contains other colors spun evenly into the yarn. No pooling of colors or the typical "brick effect" common to regular varigated yarns. Need a groovy alternative for a summertime project? Consider Sierra Quatro! Fixation. Making stretchy baby pants? Making stretchy anything? Fixation is the yarn you need. Available in several attractive colors, Fixation has the stretch built right in. This is the yarn for those last-minute baby shower gifts that won't break the bank. Pastaza: More colors! As the summer sun starts beating down on Acadiana, it's hard to think about winter, but this is perfect yarn for winter wear: cozy, a little fuzzy, and ultra comfortable. Those of you who enjoy ski trips and such will appreciate having a plush, luxurious sweater handknit in Pastaza! Make a matching scarf and hat as well! Not into sweaters so much? Use Pastaza to make yourself a jacket for our milder Louisiana winters. Throw it on, take it off! Coming soon: more colors of Malabrigo! This miraculous South American yarn has been a favorite among our sweater knitters and afghan knitters alike! Soft like Buttah! Want a quick afghan knit? Try a Plymouth Done By Monday (2 strands of Malabrigo on 13's or 17's). A number of our knitters have made several, and they're FABULOUS. It's an afghan you'll want to turn down your AC for in July!

Awaiting The New Stuff

Re-stock items are scheduled to start arriving today! We're waiting for our replenishment of Della Q bags and Chiaogoo needles. Also, the Addi wall will be re-filled this week. More colors of Sugar Rush are on their way, as well as even more copies of the sought after Done By Mondays Afghan book (which I've dubbed "Arrived on Friday, Gone by Saturday"). Several of you have stopped by the shop just moments after our last copy found a home. No worries. More will be here in a few days. Also, in short time, we will have several of the new colors from Schaefer, and a few new yarns from Cascade. As many of you know, the Schaefer Company recently discontinued many of their famous women and replaced them with other famous women. Without a doubt you'll want to come see who's new as soon as our famous ladies arrive!

Sign Up Your Children NOW!

VBYC will be offering summertime knitting camps for children in grades 3-8 in June and July. Call or stop by the shop for details. The modest camp tuition (about the same price for an adult project class) for the week includes supplies and a copy of Lucinda Guy's excellent teaching book Kids Learn to Knit. Pro-rates for multiple children from the same family, or to send your children to more than one week of knitting camp. The camp meets one hour each day for a week per session.

World-Wide Knit In Public Day

SATURDAY, JUNE 13TH in Girard Park from 10am-? is the Lafayette observance of World-Wide Knit In Public Day. I've written about the event in the newsletter and on Ravelry.com, so most of you already know a little about next month's event. It will be a day-long grill, knit, visit, and enjoy party starting at around 10am. Bring what you'd like to grill for lunch as well as any picnic type sides you'd like to share! Don't only bring yourself, but bring your family as well. All are welcome! If you prefer to crochet, then come and do the above, but bring your crocheting! The KIP event will take place on the green space between the ball diamond and the UL Alumni Center. Just look for our tent and grills!

Keep Coming Back!

We're back and even more hilarious than ever! The smash hit musical many of you enjoyed (several times) at the Abbey Theatre last fall is back on stage with the same cast and same production staff. The ticket office was receiving requests for tickets to the last run a full 2 months after the show had closed! Here's your chance if you missed it last fall, or if you need to return (and if you've seen it, you know you'll need to) for another dose of upbeat joy about what we all know best: life, from dating, romance, marriage, family, and growing old. We'll be performing the show at the Crowley Grand Opera House May 22 and 23. Ticket information is available through VBYC:THE BLOG! Just click on the link in the upper left corner of your screen! Please note that this performance, although using the same cast and crew as the fall production, is an independant company production, and the show is not part of the regular Abbey Players season, or sponsored by the Abbey Theatre. I'll be at the piano for the performance. I've been limbering up my Tango and Reggae fingers! Come back for an evening that promises side-splitting laughter and musical numbers from every genre from B-way, to Opera Buffa, to Reggae, to Gospel, to Country, to Rock!
